Actually, I Was the Winner Last Time We Played Trivial Pursuit

H sings along to the song playing in the sporting goods store.

Me: I can't believe you know this song.

H: Haven't you ever seen Short Circuit?

Me: Yes, once in the fourth grade.

H: That's no excuse. This is the theme song from the movie.

Our Friend Who Is Shopping With Us: Is the first Short Circuit the one where he gets gold-plated?

H: Nickel-plated.

Friend: Now I understand why I lost to you in Trivial Pursuit.

H: I can't remember anything useful, but I know the name of the actor who played Grandpa Munster.

Me: I love you, you freak.

That is hilarious. And I haven't seen Short Circuit in years, either, but...

Who's Johnny, she said
And smiled in her special way
Johnny, she said
You know I love you
Who's Johnny, she said
And tried to look the other way
Eyes gave her a-waaaayy...

Aren't husbands great, with their totally useless info retaining abilities? I sure love mine for it!

BWAH! I was trying to remember what the theme to "Short Circuit" was, and now... Oh, Lord. I'm going to have "Who's Johnny?" going through my head all afternoon. Hee.

"No disassemble."

What was WITH all the 80s movies about robots?

Oh, I loved Short Circuit!! We had it on tape, and I would watch it over and over.

My husband is brilliant at remembering details and complete scenes from movies. I suck at this.

Stefanie beat me to it...I was going to type the lyrics to Who's Johnny, because I had it in my head as soon as I saw Short Circuit in your post...

I've lost the Trivial Pursuit gene. I realized this a couple of nights ago when Jef was watching a Geico ad and asked me where he knew the actor from. "Peter Graves! Mission Impossible!"... yet neither of us could remember whether he was the guy who made the tapes or the guy who had to complete the mission :>

Hilarious. I don't think I remember the theme to Short Circuit even with the lyrics. I suppose it's a download to refresh the old braincells when I get home.

And your H and my Anth would get along famously. Although Anth seems to prefer 80s television themesongs to those from movies, with certain notable exceptions. *cough, cough* Rocky *cough*

Five is ALIVE!

Some people have entirely too much time on their hands.

Stefanie, you are the one who also knew the words to the Family Ties song when I asked about it! Do you have a special song talent?

Spaw, yes, they are.

Lawyerish, I swear I had never heard the Who's Johnny song before yesterday. I wish there were MORE movies about robots.

Laura, the only thing I remember about Short Circuit is that at the end they were trapped in a closet or something, and the robot played Help Me Rhonda on someone's answering machine, and then she saved them. I think.

3cars, how do you people remember this?!

Yez, at least you are both there together. =)

Christine, let me warn you that H is super competitive about Trivial Pursuit. So hopefully Anth does not mind some board game trash talking.

Preppy, whoa. That scares me. Maybe Steve Gutenberg made that website. Wait, does that make it more scary or less scary?

I forgot about the Family Ties thing. I'd say it's a selective talent. It comes and goes. As for why 3C's and I remember this... well, we do both have a few years on you. I am disturbed that the site Preppygirl found proclaims this the 20th anniversary of that movie, and I totally remember seeing it in the theater. TWENTY YEARS AGO. Gah.

Also, your "I wish there were MORE movies about robots" comment made me laugh out loud. Ha.

Just writing to say (in very tiny voice) that I have never seen Short Circuit, and hereby am turning in my pop culture badge.

From my records of fun things DD said (she was 3 at the time): I was reading TV Guide, and she saw the cover picture of Brian Bonsall from Family Ties. I said, "Oh, you recognize him from that show? The one with the song: ‘I bet we’ve been together for a million years/and I bet we’ll be together--‘" Alex chimed in, "’What do you do, bay-buh/Sha-la-la-laaaa!’"
