The Waiter Made a Face Like "WTF Are These Nerds Doing?!"

I am supposed to come up with 6 weird things about myself, but after reading Jes's list I feel like there is just no way I could top that. I will try to work something up for you.

I am kind of a competitive person, as you may remember. I like to pretend like I'm not and I can convince myself sometimes that I am laid back and all kumbaya. But then when we are playing a card game, I get frustrated when someone takes too long on his or her turn and I start bossing everyone around. Or perhaps when we are playing Taboo, I am like, "Oh, I don't care who wins!" But then I am yelling out answers like a crazy person and jumping out of my seat when someone says one of the words from the Taboo list. Just so you know, I don't get mad at the other players. I just get really into the game.

And now for a somewhat related tangent, H hates card games and board games, while I love them. I can never get anyone to play games with me. It sucks. Pictionary is so fun! Especially when you are drinking! Maybe the problem is that I feel like a five-year-old asking people over to my house to play games, so I never ask anyone. Is it dorky to ask people over to have a game night? Would H participate if I had a game night, or would he just go in the basement and lift weights on the Thunder Thruster?

OMG, people, H wants to buy this exercise machine called the Thunder Thruster. How hilarious is that? Very hilarious. I am sure it is a great machine and everything, but it is called the Thunder Thruster. "See you in half an hour, honey. I gotta go THRUST on the THUNDER THRUSTER." I will laugh so hard if we have a Thunder Thruster in our basement. And it makes me think of the Thunder from Down Under that I had to go see earlier this year. In fact, I bet the guys from that show use the Thunder Thruster a lot, if you know what I mean.

Hmm... that last sentence makes no sense, and I realized that when I wrote it, but it makes me laugh, so I am leaving it.

So, speaking (writing) of board games - nice segueway, wasn't it - I had a friendly acquaintance in college who liked to play board games. I went over to his apartment once and played board games with him and his friends, and it was a little ... interesting. When we were deciding what game to play, we had to go out to one of the friend's cars and go through his trunk to look at all his games. His trunk was FULL of board games. It was so full of board games that he had to put the games in the trunk in a specific order so that they would all fit. Whoa. So we played a game, and it was fine, and then I left. A few weeks later, the same acquaintance asked me if I wanted to go out to dinner with him and some other friends. (I will not go into how I know that this was not a date because, seriously, that is at least another whole post on its own, so just trust me; this guy had no romantic interest in me.) So we go out to dinner, and trunk-full-of-games guy was there. And he brought Uno with him into the restaurant, and everyone started playing Uno as soon as we were seated, and I was mortified. I admit that I am a nerd, but do I really need to play Uno while I am waiting for the waiter to take my order? No, I do not.

I'm delurking to admit that I love board games too. I live in Italy now, though, and the Italians just don't seem to have the same fascination with the mini-cards and plastic place markers as we do. It's quite sad, but I'll be happier knowing that you've played some Balderdash (or your game of choice) for me. Please invite your friends for game night. And think of me :)

I love board games and card games. There is a small dive bar in Minneapolis that keeps stacks and stacks of board games and puzzles and stuff behind the bar so you can play while you drink or wait for your food to arrive. Genius, I say.

I would have jumped right into that game of Uno.

I love games and cards, too! Hubby and I also have trouble finding people to play with. Two of the last three couples we played games with were weirdly competitive with each other, and actually got into arguments with each other about the game. The third couple just seemed disinterested. You and H should move here, arrange a chance meeting, since hubby wouldn't want me to meet any bloggers, for fear they are pervy old men. Once we have met each other in an appropriate non-blogger way, then I would like to invite you and H over for dinner and Scattegories. So, it's a plan. Oh - and since you're moving here anyway, can you please bring Stefanie with you, and I can just happen to meet her in a non-blogger way, too? Thanks.

I love board games! My friends and I actually have board game nights once every month or two, so if it's lame to invite people over to play games, then we are a very lame bunch. I will invite you next time. Seriously. Will you play Balderdash with me? (That one is my favorite, and no one will ever play it.) :-(

And that bar Digital Janitor is referring to has a location in St. Paul as well. You know, in case that one's closer or more convenient. I think that one has a full bar, too, while the Mpls one is beer-only, so, you know--priorities and all.

I love me some board games. My husband and I have one couple with whom we have game nights periodically, and whenever my parents come to visit we have a big family game. Fortunately, he will also play Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit with me when it's just the two of us.

I am super-competitive in games, too. Except cards. I stink at card games.

We used to have "game night" once a month with our group of friends, until they started having kids. Now we get together once a year for "game night", but it always turns into a "catching up" session... Not the same anymore...

Playing Uno at the resto that's pushing it, and I LOVE games, but I guess it goes with the truck-full-of- games... that must have been weird... and yet fun!

I say, if you want a game night, organise yourself one! They will come, you'll see!

Can't seem to log in as Stinkypaw :-(

Stinkypaw--I can't log in as me, either! I used "Other" and put in my name and URL manually. Even that didn't work at first. I blame this new Blogger Beta thing. I think they want me to switch over, and since I haven't yet, they are revoking my comment privileges.

Love the board games. We have a butt load that we never even play anymore. On the rare occasion that the kids are at grandma's overnight, we would rather go out than stay in.

Uno in a restaurant? Sounds uber-geek Dungeons & Dragons-esque. I would have been mortified too.

I have a deep and abiding love for board games. And Wilman just isn't that into them. I'm with digital janitor - I, too, would have jumped right into that game of Uno! Then again, mere weekends ago, I played charades in a swanky restaurant. Heh.

Drunk Pictionary is the best game ever. I have some very interesting pictures of my boss and her drawing from a drunk Pictionary game last year. We'll keep that on the DL, si?

I freaking love game nights! Shame we don't live near each other, we could rock it with some Cranium.

I sooo wish you all lived near me. I can never find people to play games with me. My honey even refuses to play Doctor Mario, one of my (and at one time his) all-time fave video games. And it's not like I'm unfun, a bad loser, a bad winner, or anything. I swear, I'm a good sport.
