If You're Blue and You Don't Know Where to Go To

For Memorial Day, H and I are flying to Chicago to spend time with one of my best friends and her husband, who will both be flying in from Dallas. I haven't ever had the chance to get to know my friend's husband very well because they live so far away. I am hoping this weekend will be a good chance for us to all hang out without a lot of stress or other distractions. The good thing is that even if H or I don't fall in friend-love with the husband, it is only one weekend, and I can plan some girly trips with my friend from then on. We are also going to spend at least Saturday night hanging out with my friend from high school who lives in Chicago, so I am really looking forward to this trip. I can't believe we leave on Friday though. It still feels a long way away.

Normally I don't like to talk about upcoming trips, but I know that Stefanie will be out of town for Memorial Day, so she will be unable to rob my house. This time.

After we get back from Chicago, I will be home for a week, and then I leave again, this time for a work-related trip. I will be in Philadelphia for a few days doing my exciting work stuff, and then H is going to fly up, and we'll spend the weekend cruisin' the city. I'm not sure what that means. Hopefully we will be able to meet up with Guinness Girl and Christine at some point.

In an unrelated conclusion, what is our opinion on bermuda shorts? I thought I was against them, but I tried on a pair today, and I think they would have been cute if (1) they fit better at the waist, and (2) they were either an inch shorter or an inch longer because they hit right in the middle of my knee. So I think I may not be against the bermuda short in general. What do you think? Also, do you wear leggings? If so, then I can probably disregard your opinion on bermuda shorts because I just cannot do leggings.

Heh. "This time." No, in all seriousness, I feel leery mentioning trips on my blog, too. I am leaving before you are. Please don't rob my house, either. (Steve, you stay away, too. Anyone else likely would have to fly here to rob us, and if you're flying somewhere to rob someone, you really need to think about the cost-effectiveness of that plan.)

I am anti-Bermuda shorts (and anti-leggings, so you know my opinion is valid on this). If you're tall and stick-insect-thin, you can pull them off and they look cute, but that doesn't apply to most of us. To most of us, they cut our legs in half at the worst possible spot, and they make us look like two stumpy sausages are protruding from our hips. DOWN with the Bermuda shorts!! Long live the cute summer skirt!

This comment might just be longer than your post. Why do I always do that? Clearly I have much to say. :-)

P.S. Have fun in Chicago!

I don't wear leggings, so you may value my opinion. Are we talking loud Hawaiian prints? That's not appropriate for ANY type of clothing. I will instead give my thoughts on length of shorts. I like my shorts to be just above the knees...by maybe an inch. That eliminates the sausage effect of which Stefanie spoke.

I give a big hell no to the bermuda short. Capris, yes. Skirts, yes. Sun dresses, yes. Even shorts, sometimes yes. But bermuda shorts were made by the devil to make normal sized women look like sausage-legged heifers.

Oh - down with leggings too.

I have yet to even try on Bermuda shorts, but i get the feeling that they don't work for people whose thighs are thicker than their ankles (ie: not a stick figure). But i could be wrong. I mean, they come in plaid. That has to mean they're super cool. Right? No?

I was quite the leggings fan back in the day. But I have long legs (and a short, short waist), which I think helped make them work. And I also never wore them with really short shirts, because that just looks wrong, I don't care how great your body is.

As for Bermuda shorts, I think it just depends on your body and where they hit. I tend to prefer longer shorts to shorter ones in general, but it's all about what works for you, right? Who cares whether something is trendy if they make you look bad!

Dallas! I'm in Dallas, and outside of my circle of friends I'm convinced that no one who is cool lives here. Well, okay. That's not true. It's just that I don't know them, personally.

Anyway. Bermuda shorts? I'm typically against them, especially if they're plaid. (The horror!) And don't even get me started on leggings.

But I do like those slack-shorts (slorts?) with heels and a collared shirt. You know what I'm talking about: the trousers that got hacked off about 2" below the knee? Yeah. Those.

Maybe we will pass each other at O'Hare! We're flying through there each way. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I have not tried the current iteration of Bermuda shorts thing (ie., the slim fitting ones all over J Crew and BR), but I have seen people wear them to work, which violates the dress code and I think looks somewhat ridiculous in a law firm setting. I could see them as good weekend-wear if you have the right figure for them, although I haven't determined just what the right figure is. I think normal width, mid-thigh or slightly longer shorts look best on everyone.

And Lord, no, I do not wear leggings.

Have a fun trip! It sounds great.

You might go visit GG? Oh, jealous. On both fronts.

:)

My shorts go to my knees because, yeah, my thigs are DISGUSTING. Hawaiian prints are for the birds. And maybe that chipmunk. :)
