Prepare Yourselves Before Reading Any Further

I had what I thought was a great idea for a blog post. I was going to post pictures of the guys I had crushes on in high school so that you could see what a fool I was in the mid 1990s. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I was in high school. In order to do this, I went through some old photo albums to see what pictures I had. I found one guy that I actually still think is quite cute, and I see why I was interested. But the others? Oh, man. I was pretty pathetic. But then I started thinking about how I would feel if some guy I went to junior high with posted a picture of me in junior high and wrote about what a loser he was for liking 13-year-old me. To be honest? I don't think it would hurt my feelings because I think if someone liked me in middle school, there was probably something wrong with them. Exhibit 1 is the picture below, which was taken during the summer between 7th and 8th grade. This picture makes me laugh SO HARD. Seriously, why did my parents let me be seen in public like this?! And that is my sister on the left. OMG. I have no words.

Hello, seventh grade -R-! I really enjoy your crazy, flyaway bangs; your gigantic, plastic framed glasses; your plaid shorts; and your GREEN socks!

The socks go really well with your sister's red socks! :)

I have some pictures just like that in front of famous monuments we visited on family vacations. It's like, "that's a nice picture of the Grand Tetons, but who's the freakish girl with the banana clip and the patterned jumpsuit in the foreground?"

If I had seen you then I would've been totally jealous of your plaid shorts. My best friend had a pair and I really wanted one.

As for the socks, in between 7th and 8th grade I was doing the layered sock look. SO hot. If only you'd had blue and green layered socks to match your shorts!

I'm pretty sure I had plaid shorts, too, so clearly I'm in no position to judge. I would also like to comment on the nice fanny packs. :-)

When you started that post, I thought, "That WOULD be a great idea!" But then I read your very mature logic as to why posting photos of boys would be wrong and irresponsible, and I suppose I have to agree with that as well. Damn; I could USE a blog topic!

I propose that NO ONE should be held accountable for their pre-pubescent/teenage fashion sense. It is a known fact that the mind of such "younglings" is not fully developed, is extremely impulsive, and judgment calls are thus impaired.

Plus, I was that age during the 80s... and NO WAY am I taking the blame for what I wore back then! ;-)

I'm just sayin'.

We need to see the faces on those photos!! :)

You've inspired me. I'm going to find the most awful pictures of me and post them.

I must be mad!

Clearly, what you need to complete that outfit is a fanny pack.

Why were shorts so...POUFY in the 80s??

You think you people who grew up in the 80s had it bad? I came of age in the 70s. Boy, were we ugly. You had weird bangs? We had long, stringy hair.

But at least we didn't have fanny packs. ;)

You guys, those shorts were basically boxers. I wore them as gym shorts at school. Why the hell was I wearing them in public?

For the love - yeah, I am sure I was no prize (7th grade was 1986 - height of 80s fug-forward fashion)but even I skipped out on the colored socks, -R-.

You see, I opted for the mouth-breathing Superintendent of Schools look. I mean I totally OWNED that look, thanks to my Talbot's obsessed mom:

The mullet was just extra.

And is it a "fanny pack" when it's worn like a colostomy bag? Discuss.

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog!
