Shut Yo' Mouth

I had dinner last night with H, his mom, and his sister. The three of them were discussing someone with whom H and his sister went to high school.

H's Mom: It's amazing that the guy turned out so well considering who his parents are.

H's Sister: Why? What's wrong with his parents?

H's Mom: Oh, I don't know. They are just strange.

H's Sister: What was strange about them?

H's Mom: They were just kind of creepy.

H's Sister: In what way?

H's Mom: They were just creepy.

Me: Did they ask you to swing?

You guys. I asked my mother-in-law if a creepy person asked her to swing! What is wrong with me? But that is what I thought of when she said they were creepy.

H's sister and H's mom busted out laughing. H was both mortified and traumatized. He stared at me and said, "You are speaking to my mother!"

That is exactly what I thought, too! This is a great story.

Bwahahaha... Chris's mom wouldn't even know what swinging meant! Too funny.

Hey, at least they laughed.

I'm impressed she knew what it meant! And that is totally something MY MOTHER would say and I would be the one completely mortified--right along with D. Good IL story.

NPW, H's mom said, "I know what that is. I have XM radio.".

I am not sure what shows she is listening to on the radio, but I didn't ask because I felt H had been traumatized enough for one day.

I'm so glad she laughed. My mother in law would have either been offended, or thought I was asking if they wanted her to go the playground.

There are some things that mothers just shouldn't know about, and if they are worldly enough to know about them, they should just keep it out of the conversation.

That's too funny. Being vague totally equals swinging. Maybe she laughed because IT'S TRUE!!

That is funny. What would H have thought if she'd said, "Yes, but they wanted to do weird stuff, so we said no." Years of therapy for that one.

OMG I could NEVER say something like that to the MIL. WOW.

Though, i'm kind of afraid she would know what it means, too...

Personally, I'm kind of proud of you for asking that. :-) That's hilarious.

That is awesome.

What is not awesome is that for a brief moment I was picturing them asking her to play on a playground swing, and I was thinking "that WOULD be creepy." And then, of course, the dirty kicked back in. Hee.

Sounds like H's mom has a good sense of humor, right? And that you're comfortable with her! All good things.

In the future though, I'd be wary... cause, seriously? What would you have said if she responded, "Actually, yes, they did as us to swing?

I love random, inappropriate comments like that.
My MIL would get it too, and for that I love her.

HAHAHA, I had to stop and think about it for a second because it was so random! *snorts* If I told J's parents that, I would (and he would) be completely mortified.

You're awesome!

I would have been "I know what swinging is, I saw The Ice Storm."

Seriously, that's how I learned about that.

Awesome that you asked. hee.

That is HILARIOUS. I think my mother in law would've fainted had I aske her that.

Hee hee. I love H's mom explanation on why she knows what that is.

No denials though, eh? Hmm....

You guys are right - she never denied it!

H is still mortified, so I appreciate all of you backing me up!
