Home Alone!

I have been home alone since 5:30 tonight. (I left work early to take H to the airport.) So far I have successfully run the sprinkler system to water our front lawn (which involves turning the water line on and off in the basement, so it is not as easy as it sounds- but it is still really easy), watched most of 8 Mile (which my mom saw at the theater because she thought it was a comedy), eaten half a container of Edy's Light Slow-Churned Ice Cream (or whatever it is called) (which is totally healthy because it has 1/2 the calories of regular ice cream, I didn't eat lunch, and for dinner I had a Lean Cuisine), and done two hours of work (with several more to come after this blogging break).

Unfortunately, our lawn has gone haywire and begun sprouting or something, and I am going to have to mow it. I HAVE NEVER MOWED A LAWN BEFORE IN MY WHOLE LIFE. I am very scared. The chances of me cutting off a finger are about 1/20, but the chances of me losing a toe or at least running over my foot are about 1/2. You should be concerned. I have never even started a lawn mower before. (I would like to point out that we only moved into this house last September and H freaking loves to mow the lawn, but I also must admit that I am spoiled.) I am going to make sure the neighbors are home before I attempt this so that there will be someone around who can drive me to the hospital if need be.

You have never mowed a lawn in your life? Wow. I was an only child, so as a teen I mowed, and when I was single, I mowed. Good luck with that!

I had other chores growing up, not not mowing. And when I was single, I had apartments, so I never had to mow. Don't worry; I have shoveled plenty of driveways and sidewalks at least!

Okay, I have only mowed the lawn once. I was 10 and my dad asked me to do it. I did a horrible job and he said that he would never ask me to do it again. So, I learned that if you do something half-assed, someone else will do it for you. We have a homeless guy to cut our grass. Seriously.

I'm not sure I have ever mowed a lawn either now that I think of it. I do remember using one of those push mowers with the rotating blades back in the 70's when I was a kid (talk about an accident waiting to happen!)

Good luck. If you need some help I'll send Galoot over. Just call about 16 hours before you need him because that's about how long it will take him to drive over. ;)

Added bonus: I will wear cut off shorts and no shirt to maximize your embarassment in front of the neighbors! My gut is the definition of fish-belly white.

I've mowed the lawn once in my life. It was shortly after that when we realized I have extreme grass allergies. Ha! No more lawn mowing for me!

Honestly, if I were you... I'd find a neighborhood kid and pay him/her 20 bucks to do it for you. I'm just sayin'...
