F-R-I-E-N-D-S

Today is the first anniversary of the Friends of the Friendless Marching Band. Carol came up with the name of the FFMB from an episode of "I Love Lucy" in which Lucy is feeling horribly lonely, and the Friends of the Friendless Marching Band marches by, cheering her up. Carol modified the FFMB for the internet by listing three new blogs on her site each Friday that always had less than 5 comments. The members of the FFMB then go to each listed blog and leave a comment.

I was chosen by Carol probably 7 months ago as a FFMB blog. My only visitor before the FFMB came by was my husband. I was embarassed to tell anyone about my blog, and I can't remember ever commenting on anyone else's blog before then. The FFMB made me realize that I could get readers other than H, and I could put time into my blog to make it something worth reading. The FFMB made me realize that leaving comments on other people's blogs could brighten their days a little bit, and even if the blogger didn't care about my comment, it never hurt to leave one.

I don't know how Carol or another band person found my blog or why Carol chose to list it on her site, but I truly appreciate the effort she makes to encourage "friendless" bloggers.

is there a band uniform? I bet you look like a hottie in it! Seriously though...that is really sweet.

Nice post!

I think at the begining it's tough to establish your circle of "friends", it's really by leaving comments that you get readers to your blog.

Funny thing, I can't even remember how I got to your blog... hum?!

As far as I am concerned, you are NOT friendless - you got me! ;-)

Hi,
What a nice tribute to the band. I`m the blogless flagbearer for the FFMB. Some party huh? Now where is the lemonade.....

Living in Lucyland as I do, I agree that you are a well deserving FFMB member. March on!

I will go check her out, she sounds like a nice blogger. There are so many nice ones out there. But from the look of things, I don't think you're friendless. I think this time around I'll play the flute since I've already played 'another' one. :)

But band uniforms are hot (not Jon Bon Jovi hott) dreadfully hot. Can I wear capris?

That's a really cool idea!

And I agree... the way to get readers is to comment on other blogs. I'm glad I found yours, too!

What a great idea. Of course, now you have led me to a site I didn't know about that has compiled all sorts of other sites I didn't know about... like I need anymore distractions when I should be using my computer for productive, useful things! :-)

Oh, and you're totally right about the comments. If I hadn't started commenting on strangers' sites, I never would have gotten any regular readers myself, either. (If you hadn't commented on MY blog, I never would have found YOURS! And I do quite enjoy your blog, so I'm glad you finally said Hi.)

Oh dear - it's very sweet and well-intentioned. Carol has great taste in blogs! But for me,
nomination wouldn't be a good thing - I can live with my low comment count, but I'd rather not have it announced!

Yes, belated, but happy FFMB anniversary. I'm late from a retreat with my family, but anyway, I like this post. And also, nice layout!
