It is 11 p.m., and I just finished work, so it is not that I am ignoring you, it is just that I would feel bad saying to H, "Sorry I didn't talk to you all day, but I had to write something on my blog."
Is there a blog award for longest sentence because I think I would be in the running?
And I have to go in to work early tomorrow, but that is because I am leaving early-ish to go to a happy hour with some friends that I do not see often.
Also, I don't have much to say except "work work work work work."
Ok, why am I writing all this? I shall end with a request. Please recommend a book I should read on my (bus) commute or a song I should download on H's iPod to listen to on my commute. The word "commute" is starting to freak me out. The more I type "commute" the weirder "commute" looks. Aaa!

How about The Diggs' 2005 album "Commute"? Seems completely apropos to me...
Loving Laurie Notaro right now. Try I Love Everybody (And Other Atrocious Lies.
Each individual chapter is its own story, though they're all tied together, so it's easy to read on commutes and when you have short chunks of time.
If I had an edit button, I'd close my parenthesis. Stooopid.
A book by Jodi Picoult.
And a song by Thirsty Merc.
I just finished reading "The Road." A-mazing. Also, I recently became a convert to the Harry Potter universe, short chapters, great for commuting. Oh, and the perfect work book ever is "Then We Came To The End" by Joshua Ferris. I haven't read it yet, but it's supposed to be great.
How can I properly recommend a book if you will not tell me what kind of book? Action-adventure? Trashy romance? Serious literature? Name your poison.
Have you read "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell?" It is a tome, but the chapters are a good length for commuting!

For a quick read I would suggest any of the Jodi Picoult books. They have fun twists and you can get through them quickly.
I guess it would be good to read the other comments first and see someone else recommended Jodi. Duh.

I'm reading a book right now that would be great for commuting... Mortified? I can't remember what it's called. I think that's it. I'll double check. Anyway, it's short chapters taken from people childhood journals. Hilarious. It's my toothbrushing book.

Okay, I only said those two because I'd love to see the faces of the people who you commute with when they see and hear your choices. :)
If you're into human interest non-fiction, I'd suggest The Innocent Man by John Grisham.
If you're into a quick read with a good moral and a decent story line I'd suggest The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
If you like the Wizard of Oz and want a long read, then Wicked by
Gregory Maguire.
Also, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, is terrific. I read it three times.
Oh...and if you enjoy The Amazing Race, an audio book I would recommend is Lost & Found by Carolyn Parkhurt. I enjoyed it on audio because each chapter is in first person by a different charecter in the book and you can pick up a lot of their personality from the voices used for each charecter.
Anne Lamott is always good.
David Sedaris is always good.
Anything by John Irving, specifically "The World According to Garp" or "A Prayer for Owen Meany". I <3 John Irving.
My two favorites recently are "Eat Pray Love" and "Tolstoy Lied," but I don't know that either is particularly perfect for the commuting scenario. I know I have some Jodi Picoult on my Library list, and after all the recommendations here, perhaps I'll bump her up in the list. Also, I am thoroughly amused that someone (jayare) has a "toothbrushing book"! Awesome. Now that's a reader--someone who needs to be page-turning even while teeth-brushing. :-)

Here's my favorite commuter experience..people who like to use their phone as a walkie-talkie.
So, I recommend a double shot of a little John Hiatt on the ipod and a good book by Robert Alexander (local author of Rasputin's Daughter and The Kitchen Boy). I love the light rail..
I second The Alchemist, Wicked, Life of Pi, and anything by David Sedaris.
Plus, The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield, or Water for Elephants. They're both such interesting reads, that you'll have half the book read before you arrive. I read the first one in only a day or two, I think.
I have to chime in again to say that Life of Pi rocks my face off. Also, toothbrushing gets boring!
Listen to Neon Bible, the Arcade Fire's new album. I'm loving it lately. Though I do love Marmite Breath's suggestion, too.

I am loving Team of Rivals, as I mentioned today. It's quite a tome, though, so not ideal for the commute (although I'm so into it, I'm lugging it around!!)
Podcasts are also great for bus/subway-ing. I like This American Life, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and Selected Shorts!
