Who's the Boss

I had to walk through the middle of this drinks and hors d'ouevres thing going on today in the middle of a public space downtown. Most people looked pretty normal, but one woman startled me. She was probably in her early thirties, but it was hard to tell because all I could see was her glasses. Because she looked like this:

She was wearing seriously huge Angela Bower glasses. It was like a really bad costume. I don't get the whole dressing ironically thing (at least I hope that's what she was doing). She just looked like a fool.

But anyway, I went to the eye doctor today. I am going back to contacts for most days, but I need to get new glasses too because my old prescription is just not cutting it. I already got contacts with the correct prescription, and it is scary how much better I can see now. Also, I learned that I do not have very good depth perception. Which explains why I am always running into door jambs. And is also a new good excuse for why I am bad at sports. I'm not slow and uncoordinated; I just have bad depth perception! Yes, that is what I tell myself.

So my new eye doctor is super cool, and I love him in a non-romantic eye doctor kind of way. When I was checking out frames, I mentioned that I would like to have H and a friend or two see how I look in them because I am not a good judge of these things, so the glasses-selling lady said, "Let's pick out a few that look the best on you, and you can take them home with you to try out. Just bring them back when you come in to pick up your contacts." Dude! I get to test drive my glasses! So here they are. Which pair do you prefer?

[Option 1]
[Option 2]
[Option 3]

I like Option 3. I'm partial to darker frames, mainly because I couldn't really pull them off myself!

I like option 2, because they highlight your eyes.

Oh, Judith Light. How I loved her crazy antics with Tony Danza!

Oh, and I like the 3rd option. :)

Definitely number three. Although I do like number two, also.

Also, you're adorable!

Test drive your glasses? Awesome. I pick number 1. The shape compliments your face.

I like option #1.

I LOVE Option 1!!! They are tres cool!

Plus you worked in a Who's the Boss reference. Too, too cool. I work with a lady that is about 4'9 and MAYBE weighs 90lbs (though, I seriously doubt it). She too rocked the Angela glasses until this year. With her teeny tiny little face and those ginormous glasses, I could never keep a straight face, wondering when her vivacious, somewhat trampy mother would jump in to steal the scene. ;-)

Option 1, definitely. (I'm voting twice)

I vote for #1 and #3. My dentist wears those giant 80s glasses too!

Angela Bower, OMFG. That is SO funny. Surely the woman was being ironic. SURELY she was.

I love my eye doctor, too, and I also suffer from a severe lack of depth perception, which I only recently learned when I switched to this eye dr and finally I could understand why I suck so bad at sports involving projectile objects, and also why I walk into walls sometimes.

Option Number One!!

Delurking to put in my vote... I like Option #1 because they're more angular and compliment your face shape.

p.s. I LOVE the fact that you can test drive your frames. That would have saved me from buying (and never wearing) the frames I bought last year... Also, LensCrafters has a 30-day money back guarantee. Just sayin'.

Number 2. The loan lady at one of our downtown branches looks a lot like Angela. And Mona? Growwwwll!!!

Another delurker to vote for option#1 - I really think they suit you the best. Nice choices!

Numbers 1 or 3. Number 1 is a flattering shape, but number 3 kind of has that "sexy librarian" thing happening.

I like #3. They're a great shape for your face (like pair #1, too), but (unlike pair #1) they don't overpower your brows. Plus, they're so Power Lawyer, no?

I like #3, although it may be because you also have the nicest smile in that picture. I'm also totally in love with my eye doctor. We talked about Harry Potter, which he reads so he has something to talk to kids about when they're nervous.

I can't remember how I got over here -- either love is blone or alyndabear, I think. Anyway, hi! I like the first ones the best, although they're all cute.

I vote for #1. Sometimes I'm sad that since I now have laser eyeballs, I don't get to pick cute glasses anymore.

My boss has giant, round reading glasses a la Angela. Imagine how hard it is to take her seriously when she sports them!

Definitely pair number 3. They look the best on your face.

I like #1!

While I like #2, I LOVE #3. So I'd go with that. And you look beautiful in all three options, by the by. :-)

Also: How the heck do you survive without a Trader Joe's??????????

I vote option #2. #3 is my second choice!

I vote option 2!

I want to say #3, but I know those are pretty similar to your current glasses, so if you're looking for something new, I'd go with #1.

With #3, however, we can still be glasses-twins. Don't you still want to be glasses twins??

"Angela Bower glasses" man, I heart you just for saying that.

I think #2, followed by #1.

I was going to say number 3, but then all these people were voting for 1, so I went back and looked again. Definitely 3. 1 is computer-nerdish, I think. 2 is just "eh". But 3, as someone said, is hot!

Way cool that you get to test drive! I have to pick them at the doc's and I'm blind as a bat. It's always a surprise (and not always a good one) when I put them on with the lenses in.

#1, then #2, then #3.

Gosh you look great in glasses! I like option #3. I didn't really look at the glasses, just how your face seemed as a package, like you're supposed to do when analyzing logos... is that wrong? Then I looked more closely and, gosh, you look cute in glasses! Not Judith Light-y at all :)

I picked #1. Being someone who mostly wears contacts, but has to have glasses, I don't like any more bulk than necessary in a frame--it's annoying to have this big dark thing in the way of your peripheral vision. Maybe some people get used to it--but my point of view is affected by my glasses-wearing experience. Thus, #1 is thinner and less annoying to me. ;)

Angela Bower - ha!

I think Pair # 1 looks the best, but #2 is nice also.

1! Your eyes are centered in the frames (unlike in 3, which sit too low) and the lightness of them compliment your pretty face (also unlike in 3, which are too heavy). The shape as well is very nice on you (which 2 makes your face look long and narrow)...

my best friend used to sell glasses and she'd tell me what was wrong on the faces we'd pass. :)

There are already 30 comments here, but I like 1 or 3 but 2 makes you look drunk.

Unless you WERE drunk, in which case 1 or 3 are still better because they make you look sober.

I like #1, for whatever reason.
But secretly, I want you to get your own "Who's the boss?" glasses. I love stuff like that.

Thanks for all of your opinions! I will let you know what I decide on Tuesday- that's when I have to go to the optometrist and make the final decision.

#1. They make you look artsy and too cool to blog.

Also? I totally had the giant glasses in junior high. They were red and went down past my nose. True story.

R, I have two words for you: Lasik Surgery!

It is an interesting experience that is pretty inexpensive considering the convenience it provides and leaves you with better than 20/20 vision, Sista.

And by the way, I loved Who's The Boss. Always thought I'd marry someone like Tony -- boy was I off!
