Thursday

Sometimes I really need to keep my mouth shut, and sometimes I need to speak up for myself. I wish I were better at distinguishing between these two kinds of situations.

So which one was it in this particular instance? Too silent, or should have stayed silent?

I'm the same way. If I stay silent, I'm usually trying to hold back tears or come up with some clever retort. If I say anything, I regret it instantly.

I did both today, actually. Spoke up when I shouldn't have and didn't speak up for myself when I should have. Boo.

I spoke up because I didn't care what the person in question thought of me any more. And then when I should have defended myself, I didn't because I didn't care what the person thought of me any more. So same reasoning for both actions. Ugh.

I'll speak up on this one - I'm annoyed that Blogger has changed, and I can't link to my non-blogger website on any of the blogger blogs I comment on. Yet another reason I'm happy with wordpress.

Oh, and in real life, I hate not knowing when it's appropriate to say something.

I totally get where you're coming from. I often find that I have to force myself to stay silent about certain things until I can be sure that what I'm going to say isn't just a knee-jerk reaction, but by then it's too late to say anything...

Hope your situation resolved itself!

I am the queen of this myself, so I have little advice for you, unfortunately, except to say it's nearly always worse in our heads than it actually was for real.

I've learned that, for me- the best rule to follow is to keep my damn mouth shut at any and all times. This solves a LOT of problems.

i never know the difference either... I wish I could get some kind of, like, electric fence for my mouth that would give me a tiny zap when I'm going too far!

Let me know if you ever figure that out. I could use it, too.

i think we all have this problem to an extent. a lot of times it's not until those insert foot in mouth situations that you realize it...

I think I consistently do the exact opposite.
