King and Queen of the Dorks (With a Side of Ninjas)

Someone who I happen to think is very cool has started a new blog about fitness. Check it out. It has inspired me to take better care of myself (starting now).

*****

Last night, H and I watched Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip together. Right after the credits, there is a scene where the actors are practicing a skit while the crew watches. One of the crew members was Lucy Davis, who played Dawn on the British version of The Office.

"Look! It's Dawn from The Office!" I yelled. I get excited easily.

"Oh," said H.

The scene went on, and then they showed Lucy/Dawn again.

"It's Dawn from The Office again!" I said.

"Oh," said H.

After the show, I said to H that I thought it was really cool that Lucy/Dawn was in the show, even though she only had one line. H had no idea what I was talking about. He apparently did not understand my shouts of "It's Dawn from The Office!" or perhaps he is just good at tuning me out. H denied that Lucy/Dawn was on the show last night, and we searched the internet but could find no mention of it. So we made a bet about whether Lucy/Dawn had been on Studio 60 or not.

Then this morning, I arrived at work to find that H had already sent me the following e-mail:

Instead of responding, I sent H a link for a present I want to get one of our nephews. The link was to a gun that shoots ninjas instead of bullets.* H said it would be a good present and also said that he wanted one for himself. I wrote him back later to let him know I had ordered two ninja guns.

H responded:

You are going to get hit with sooooo many ninjas
I almost feel sorry for you
Almost

Love,
No-dawn

And with that, I think we are officially no longer newlyweds.

Tonight, we watched Act 2 of Studio 60 on NBC's website, and guess who we saw and who was even listed as a guest star? Lucy/Dawn!

*Our nephew went through a period where he really liked to karate chop everything he saw. H told our nephew, "That is your pimp hand." So then the nephew went around announcing to everyone (H's family, other preschool students, people at his church), "This is my pimp hand!" And when our nephew would karate chop something, he would say, "Pimp!" with each chop. H was so proud.

Holy crap do I love Dawn from the Office.

I think it might be why I'm so in love with Shawn of the Dead.

If you haven't seen it...go now and rent it.

More fabulous than being hit with a barrel full of ninjas.

Hubby and I got into it once about whether Diane Lane was in Erin Brockovich. Turns out I was wrong. No email taunting ensued, though. =)

you had me at a "gun that shoots ninjas". Can you change that order to THREE guns?

***imagining being able to shoot my wife with ninjas***

I miss the BBC version of The Office. It was SO good (we do have it on DVD though so we can watch it at whim). But the American version is just so amazingly fantastic, yet different enough that you don't even need to compare. They each hold their own. Oh and congrats on being right... aren't girls always right?

Wow, just don't send that link to the S.O....or *I* will get hit with so many ninjas.

Also, and mostly unrelated...years ago my roommate had a cat that I called "Rat Bastard" but that he had named, "Ninja Fighter the Second." There was never a first.

We have conversations like this all the time. We bet on things like whether Dawn from the Office was in Studio 60 or not. (Except I don't watch either show, but you know what I mean.)

Being married rules.

We'll be sitting there watching L&O:CI or L&O:SVU (I just wanted to type that out all fancy) and I'll say, "Oh, it's So-and-So from Whatchamacallit show" and my husband knows my trivia prowess so well that he never doubts me anymore. He just rolls his eyes and goes, "Nerd"

That gun. is. awesome.

So are many other things on that site. Damn you, R; now I want to buy fun things that I do not need.

I have season 1 of the BBC Office. Love it. I love it so much, that I almost can't watch the US version. Almost.

Your conversations and emails sound a lot like ours. And I'm still always right. ;-)

Jenny, H rented that and watched it while I was at work, so I have only seen the last 30 minutes or so. I liked it. And I really like Tim from the British Office. Hitchhikers Guide was worth it just for him.

3cars, e-mail taunting can be fun, as long as it does not go too far!

Schneids, maybe I will let you borrow the ninja gun every once in a while. I bet your wife would love it!

Preppygirl, although I know what happens, I have not seen the final two specials that ended the British Office! Aargh!!!! I guess all girls aren't always right (see 3cars note above), but I think that you and I are always right.

Christine, it is inevitable that your s.o. will get the ninja gun. You should preempt him and get one first.

Lawyerish, it rules except that normally H will NEVER admit that he is wrong.

Nat, ha! He must mean nerd as a compliment.

Stefanie, did you see the gun that shoots little business people? I almost got that one for work.

Ma'am, I love the American Office more than the British Office. I cannot help it.

Lucy/Dawn was also on "Ugly Betty" this week. Coincidentally, that airs at the same time as "The Office," but I taped it this week just because I was curious if it was any good. (It was OK, but I don't know that I'll bother to continue taping it just so I can see both that and The Office.)

Anyway, I have no idea if she has a recurring role or if it was a one-time thing, but I thought I would mention it anyway, since you are such a fan of Lucy/Dawn. :-)
