Insert Trapped in the Closet or Coming Out of the Closet Joke Here

Lawyerish and Jay Are asked to see pictures of my closet. Voila!

The closet also includes a mirror and tie tying instructions. The closet is quite large. I love it! Not really much else to say about the closet.

I still have 3 photo requests to fulfill. Don't worry, my pretties! I have not forgotten about you!

So in happy and totally unrelated news, my sister got an amazing job! In Raleigh, North Carolina. Does anyone know anything about Raleigh? No one I know (including my sister) has ever been there. Any advice would be helpful.

In blog news, thanks for all your thoughtful comments on my last post. And on every post. Yay, blog people!

Are you ever unintentionally funny? It is kind of awkward when you are not trying to be funny and yet the person you are talking to starts laughing. A lot. This happens to me all the time. At work. Not that I'm telling stories about my dog dying and everyone is laughing hysterically. Just things like I will go off on a tangent about all the people I need to have lunch dates with in March and then say, "And now you know all my lunch plans for the month of March," and my coworker will think this is hilarious, when I think I am not being funny, just dorky. Oh well.

Can I see some pics of the living room and kitchen please? Thank you.

I find that when I try to be funny, it's not as funny as when I'm just being me and people laugh. Okay then...

You're funny looking. Does that count?

Okay, I was temporarily possessed by the spirit of my Dad. And he is still alive. And in Mexico. So it was weird.

I'd like a picture of your laundry area, that is, if you're still taking requests.

I went to college in nearby Durham but only went to Raleigh for the Crabtree Valley Mall, which, incidentally, I highly recommend. I really liked the whole Research Triangle Park (or RTP as it's called) in fact--it has a professional feel nicely mixed with collegiate shenanigans since there are so many schools nearby. It was also a relatively clean area for being a collection of cities, although I lived there about 10 years ago so perhaps that's changed. And Charlotte is another interesting small city that's not too far away.

One tip for your sister: Durham is pronounced "Deeerm" by the locals, you know, just so she doesn't mistakenly think they're checking out her skin.

I'm with you on the wire hangers. On almost every other trip to Big Lots or Dollar General, PGirl and I try to pick up a pack of wooden hangers. Slowly, but surely, we are metrosexualizing our closets. No pun.

I am confused as to why the bridesmaid dress from a now-passed wedding is still hanging at the ready with your day-to-day clothes. When you've got a closet that size, though, I suppose there's no need to tuck anything away in storage, huh?

Man, I like my little 1950 house, but one thing it does NOT have is closet space like that!

That IS a nice big closet. Not that I'm jealous or anything.

Haha! Ha! Hahaha! Oh, I'm sorry--were you not trying to be funny?

I lived in Chapel Hill, a town about 30 mins from Raleigh, for six years. I think Raleigh is a fairly nice place to live. As Sognatrice mentioned, the Crabtree Valley Mall is nice but I do think a newer fancier one has gone up in the last few years. There are some great restaurants, good schools I think, and a decent amount of things to do. Chapel Hill and Durham also have some good restaurants so she will be close to that. Also, I think it is only a couple of hours from Raleigh to get to the beach!

Anyway, Greg and I have thought about where we would go if we left NYC and going back to the Triangle is high on the list.

I had my wedding dress "preserved" in a box. Without actually opening the box, I can only imagine they PUT the dress in a box, sealed it in some plastic, then gladly took my money...

Your closet is as big as my bedroom.

Why do I live in New York again???

I have my wedding dress "hermetically sealed" in a box much like 3C described. It is really freaky. It is in this big white box that is kinda like a half-size coffin made of cardboard. When you open the lid there is a plastic window so you can see the dress in there, and the bosom is stuffed to keep it's shape. Everytime I look at it, it creeps me out. And while it's probably good for the dress, it's totally impractical. I can't just try it on and run around the house (because everyone does that.. right?)

I was gonna tell you about Galoot's wooden hangers (too much Queer Eye watching) but he beat me to it. What about your shoes??

you can hermetically seal your wedding dress?
but why?
are you going to wear it again? and if you do, you'll have to have it sealed again?

i'd rather run around the house in it like preppygirl. i mean if you're going to spend that much on a dress, you should at least be able to watch tv and eat chips in it later on.

Claire - The idea is to keep it from yellowing (or whatever happens to white dresses when they hang forever) so it can be passed down to a daughter, future daughter in-law, later opened up to be made into a pillow...Who knows what will be done with it in the future. Better to know that it will look half decent when you do decide to do something with it...

I love closets. If I had my way, I'd build our next house so that more than half the square footage was devoted to closets. Hey, it could happen.

The difficult part about unintentionally funny is that you eventually get used to it... until the day people don't find you unintentionally funny anymore, and you keep waiting for the laughs that never come. Not that it's happened to me or anything. *ahem*

I'm really really trying my damndest to refrain from busting out my inner R. Kelly, but you, my friend, are making it quite hard.

Ooh, I love being nosey and peeking into other people's closets. Any skeletons? Hee.

And that's a LOT of bridesmaid dresses. Sounds like you've been to a fair amount of weddings. :)

I cannot believe the size of your closet -- that's awesome. Mine is so packed to the gills that everything has to be returned to its exact spot or the whole thing falls apart.

You also seem to be lucky in your friends' choices for bridesmaids dresses. No geranium pink taffeta puff-sleeved monstrosities in there I see.

I know nada about the Raleigh area. BUT, my uncle is a real estate agent/occasional English Prof/occasional surfer in the North Carolina Outer Banks, so may I recommend the Cape Hatteras area to you for your next vacation? Even if you don't go with my random uncle, it's beautiful, and off season it can be pretty cheap.

I was in Raleigh once on a lay-over at the airport. From what I know it is a city that is growing rather rapidly (probably a great place to invest in land) and there are many beautiful new neighborhoods, and (by my research from a few years ago) the real estate market is well priced for the time being. Lots of new up and coming companies in the area.

That is all. This concludes "Emily Knows Too Much About Cities She's Only Been In For Forty-Five Minutes".

Wow...can you share some of your closet space with me? Pretty please!

My brother lived in Raleigh for a few years in his early 20's. What do I know about it? Just that the people speak in a foreign language there!! Oh, and they eat well. He came home way bigger then when he left!! Good luck to your sister!

No more wire hangers... ha! Every time I see my mom STILL using wire hangers, I try to convince her not to, to no avail. It's like the opposite of the Mommy Dearest problem.

I grew up in Raleigh...it's such a fantastic place!! It's clean, and the people are nice, and it's the perfect combination of city, suburb, and farm. It's halfway between the mountains and the beach. And when I say "Raleigh" I really mean "all of Wake, Durham, and Orange counties". I would so love to live there again if my family was still there!!
