The Flamingo of Regret

You will have to excuse my nonsensical ramblings tonight because I am excited. I have been putting off two projects for a really long time because they are hard. But then I finally sat down tonight and just did them, and I didn't even take breaks to check my e-mail or Go Fug Yourself. I just sat down and did the projects, and now I feel like a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders, as I won't have to have nightmares about my boss secretly being in the mob and hunting me down because of the lateness of these projects. Wooo!

I have a big bug bite on my neck. I am afraid that it looks like a hickey. But it is not a hickey! It is a bug bite! I don't even think it really looks like a hickey. But I do have a puffy pink area on my neck. Attractive!

What other random exclamations can I share with you? I watched Hot Fuzz on Sunday night. It was super good, right up there on my scale with The Sound of Music. But not anything like The Sound of Music. It was a really funny murder mystery movie by the same people who did Shaun of the Dead. Two thumbs up! Also, in random exclamation news, Liz got a tattoo for her birthday!

Have I ever told you about my college roommate's tattoos? During our freshman year, she thought for several months about what kind of tattoo she wanted to get on the inside of her ankle, and one night when she was bored, we went to the tattoo shop and she got it. It was a Chi-Rho and looked very cool. But she didn't want her parents to know about it, so she wore a couple of band-aids on her ankle every time she went home for at least the next four years. In a hot, swampy suburb of Houston. Her mom actually saw the tattoo once, but my friend just told her mom that it was just a doodle she had drawn on her ankle with a pen and the mom didn't question it.

Then during our sophomore year, my roommate decided she wanted another tattoo. So we went to the tattoo shop one night when we were bored, and my friend really wanted to get this tattoo of a devilish teddy bear holding a football. My friend hated football and was not really a fan of devilish teddy bears, as far as I knew, so I tried to change her mind. She would not listen to reason. She wanted the devilish teddy bear. I suggested other religious symbols, but she wanted the scary teddy bear. Somehow I convinced her to get a tattoo of a flamingo. She got it on her right shoulder blade. And then a few hours later, she regretted it and blamed me. She continued to blame me for the flamingo for the rest of our college careers, but I do not feel bad. I actually think the flamingo is kind of cool, though random. And MUCH better than the scary football teddy bear.

I do not have any tattoos because (1) it hurts to get a tattoo and (2) I do not trust myself not to get the equivalent of The Flamingo of Regret.

1. tat's don't hurt, well ok they do depending on where you get them shoulder blade - yes - on a muscle - like the calf - nope

a flamingo sounds cool also but you should always go w/ your first choice, like a quarter moon or a libra symbol. or maybe that's just me.

glad you got your projects done. Now go read go fug yourself - that site rocks

Go Fug Yourself is a GREAT time waster! :)

The Flamingo Tattoo of Doom. Yipes. I will most likely never get a tattoo, yet I secretly want the Leo horoscope swirl on me somewhere...

A bug bite is a hickey. A hickey from a bug.

I am also glad I've never been tattooed. If I had done what I wanted in college, I would now be sporting the comedy/tragedy mask of regret.

I would probably have the cat of regret. Just because I was a single woman with 3 cats doesn't mean I needed them permanently affixed to my body. Thankfully, common sense prevailed on that one. I do not have the cat of regret. That friend probably thinks of you every day.

And this is why I have been talking about getting a tattoo for years, but still am not inked. I fear the flamingo of regret.

I bought Hot Fuzz yesterday and watched it again last night (Aaron had never seen it). I do love it, and I would still sell my family for a chance to snog Simon Pegg, but I don't love it as much as Shaun of the Dead. It's really long! But by the Power of Grayskull, there are some funny bits! I don't know nuffink about no skellingtons.

Yeah, you should not let the fear of the pain keep you from inking. It's really not that bad. We're women. We have cramps. Some of us have babies. We can deal!

You absolutely should, however, think long and hard about what you're getting. I don't regret any of my four, but I NEVER picked anything from the wall. They're all my own.

Woo hoo on getting projects done!!

If I had ever gotten a tattoo, it would have been while I was in Scotland, and it would have been the Thistle of Potential Remorse. Actually, I don't think I necessarily would have regretted it; I just think I'm not the tattoo-sporting type.

If forced to choose between a devilish teddy bear and a flamingo, I think I'd go with the flamingo. You counseled your friend wisely on that.

i am going to assume the flamingo wasn't a huge back piece or up the entire side of her calf?

i agree with libragirl, they really don't hurt. there are a lot of endorphins to help you through it all. :) (even after 20 hours...not all in a row...of work being done)

I also have no tattoos because I cannot trust myself not to change my mind about the design 15 minutes later.

One of my best friends has a tree frog on her hip that she got when she was 16. Does she love frogs? Not particularly. DEFINITELY a frog of regret.

I have one, but it is pretty benign. No regret. However, my boyfriend (at the time) got one with me- a cow. On his chest.
I wonder how he feels about that one, 16 years later?

If things had gone my way that one night in college, the Hipster Star of Remorse would be chilling on my inner wwist right about now.

I just read an article that dermatologists are making a KILLING on tattoo removals right now. Apparently, there's a lot of regret out there.

People who say tattoos don't hurt have a higher threshold of pain than some other people (read here: me). Getting my ears pierced about killed me. And I was 12 then. I'm a MUCH bigger wuss now! I'm with you. No tats for me, thanks. But I love them on other people!!

Oh, and in addition to Go Fug Yourself, PopSugar (and all the offshoots) is also a great time waster.

I wanted a tattoo when I was 16. My mom said I had to want exactly the same thing in exactly the same place for at least 5 years before getting it. She then took me to 3 different tattoo parlors so I could get an idea of what it was all about. (This also happened when I was 8 and wanted my ears pierced, but I didn't have to wait 5 years--only watch 5 people get it done.)

5 years later I still wanted the same tattoo in the same place, but still decided against it. I don't think I would really have regretted it today, but I just don't think having a tattoo suits me.

Yea for getting your looming over head projects done!

km, I'd already decided to make that rule with my son if he ever wants a tattoo. I'm going to tell him to make an exact drawing of it, with an exact location and put it in a sealed envelope. If, 5 years later, he still wants THAT EXACT SAME THING, I'll not only let him, I'll pay for it.

I really liked Hot Fuzz too, but I watched Shaun of the Dead the other night and I couldn't get into it. I didn't even finish. Also, The Sound of Music? Best movie ever!
