Random Movie Reviews

I decided to take some more pictures of myself that I could use if my high school reunion committee decides to put a booklet together. Here are my two new favorites:

[me with the finger guns]

[smiling me]

As you may remember from my most recent post, we went bowling on Friday night to celebrate Virginia's birthday. She turned 27, which she claims is old, but she is seven months younger than me, so I think she is a lovely young lass. We had a great time, but I forgot to take my camera, so you will just have to trust me when I tell you that I scored over 100. Aw yeah.

After that, H and I went on a movie kick. On Saturday night, we finally saw Children of Men at the theater. The movie was fantastic. Unfortunately, there was a total weirdo in the theater with us who kept laughing way too hard and clapping at parts that were not clap-worthy. Children of Men is a serious movie, but it has some light-hearted parts. For example, two friends are talking towards the beginning of the movie, and one makes a fart joke. My response was a smile. Total weirdo's response was clapping and yelling, "OH MY GOD THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!" Also, at the end of a serious part, the total weirdo announced loudly, "I want my money back! HA HA HA!" We thought maybe the guy had some issues, but we saw him after the movie, and H and I concluded that he was just weird. The guy was kind of annoying, but whatever, the movie was great.

On Sunday morning, H took some pain medication and was kind of loopy, and then we watched Paycheck on tv. There were some pretty obvious plot issues, but overall, it was a decent movie.

Then Sunday night we watched The Last Kiss. I expected to really like it because I am a big fan of Zach Braff. I didn't like it, but that was probably due in part to the fact that H was defending Zach Braff's character and acting like it was ok for him to cheat on his pregnant girlfriend. Anyway, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I suggest watching it with someone who is willing to boo Zach Braff's character with you. Also, I would like to note that this movie stars Jacinda from Real World: London. I give it a rating of Meh.

Tonight we watched Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg. I am a total sucker for inspirational sports movies, so of course I loved this one. I am proud to say that I didn't cry while watching it, but it was really good.

I have also started watching DVDs of the tv show Weeds while I work out, which you guys suggested a while ago. It is awesome.

Thus concludes R's Review for the day. Feel free to share any more good movies or TV shows I need to rent!

There was much talk in reviews about how "real" The Last Kiss was in its depiction of relationships. I disagreed SO STRONGLY that I wanted to rip the reviewers' faces off. Real? REAL?! Honestly, if that's your idea of 'real,' try dating/marrying someone who isn't a) a lying, cheating asshole with some integrity (fuck you, Zach!) or b) a whiny, abusive bitch (Casey Affleck's wife). I don't know, I didn't like any of it, and neither did Ad.

I do like Jacinda Barrett, however, although I like her husband a lot more (Gabriel Macht, also in A Love Song for Bobby Long)

We both, however LOVED Invincible (saw it in the theater), as we, too, are suckers for sports movies of any kind.

I'm loving the finger gun picture. Definitely send that one to your reunion committee!

I'm the wrong person to ask about movies, since I'm always several years behind. Hey, I hear they're redoing "King Kong" again! (Hee.)

I concur with your one-word review "Meh" for Last Kiss. But I had heard that it sucked, so I went in with low expectations. (I still wanted to see it anyway.)

Your self-photos are totally reminding me of some of the meMarmony pics I've seen (ones where the guy obviously did the self timer or arms-holding-the-camera-in-front-of-his-face thing). I have yet to see a photo with finger guns, however. I'm sure I will eventually, though, and frankly, I can't wait. :-)

I saw Chidren of Men and thought it was a really good premise for a movie, but the end left me wanting more explanations.

I watched Running With Scissors and was amazed at Annette Benning's acting. She was awesome.
I also watched Talledaga Nights and thought it was hilarious!! I live in the Midwest and personally know a lot of people just like the ones spoofed in that movie.

I just saw "Pan's Labyrinth" and as the movie ended, some guy in the audience yelled, "But who the hell is Pan?!!!" oblivious to the fact that a title character can go through a 2 hour movie without anyone ever saying his name. Someone else shouted back to him, "The goddamed goat man, you idiot!" I would say that the exchange made the atmosphere of the theatre really tense, but I think the tension was mostly due to the 2 hours we had all just spent watching people get shot in the head.

I am totally with you on The Last Kiss. I feel like the women in that movie take a beating--they're all crazy or needy or clingy. Even Zach B's girlfriend, who seems normal, ends up being a little nuts!

I sit next to/in front of/behind that same total weirdo EVERY TIME I go to a movie or play. Every. Single. Time. Which is why I haven't seen a movie in the theater for over a year.

1. That guy was at In America. He was wearing a black trenchcoat, talked to himself loudly, and screamed loudly at the most imappropriate times and SAT RIGHT NEXT TO ME.

2. Last Kiss - I totally agree.

3. I forgot #3.

Peace out.

When we sent to see the Sixth Sense there were two people talking to each other LOUDLY through a good portion of the movie. They were talking shit and swearing to each other. Finally Galoot belts out a very loud, "THIS IS NOT YOUR LIVING ROOM!" One of them said, "SO?" And another guy in our row yelled, "SO SHUT UP!" They talked back some shit and finally left, at which point the people around them applauded quietly.

It always cracks me up thinking about this because, if you're gonna yell at someone in a theater, say something authoritative, like, "SHUT THE HELL UP!" not, "this is not your living room!" Dork.

Along with the finger gun pic you should also send along one of you with the ninja gun - that'll be sure to impress.

*Sigh*

The Real World:London.

Also known as the last Real World that I watched with any enthusiasm. No wait, there was also Seattle with the slapping incident. Back when reality TV was a novelty and not the norm.

Definitely send the finger-gun picture. I can just see that on the Wall of Fame in the front hallway. Totally. :-)

Loved Children of Men. Especially loved it, because of all the idiots who walked out saying, "I don't get it." Yeah, I'm smarter than you, bitches. Oh, yeah. haha

I liked Invincible, too... wasn't outstanding, but definitely a feel-good kind of movie. I'm okay with that.

Just bought Season One of Arrested Development to watch while I work out. I didn't get to watch all the first runs, so I can catch up in time for Season Two's arrival. Yay!

A little late on the advice thing, but I highly recommend Rescue Me. But not if you get easily offended, otherwise it's awesome!

Okay.

Thank you for making me feel normal because I loathed that movie. I was just talking with my two girl cousins (one of them married, the other one pregnant of her boyfriend) and they both liked it and condoned Zach's actions. THE.HELL?

Every character had emotional issues of co-dependency, it seems.

Of course, it may be that I'm just bitter.

Also, this movie is a re-make of a french movie, so suck it Zach Braff with the whole big head about how you are so witty and whatnot.

(I think I am bitter. Just a little).

Weeds is good, please watch Arrested Development, and Rescue Me is next on my list.
