When I Saw My Haircut, A Certain F Word Came to Mind

Before I do my Thursday list, let me first tell you a little story. I decided to get a haircut today. I have been thinking about it for a while and realized that I would actually be able to leave work in time to get a haircut tonight, so I made a quick appointment and met with a new stylist. I said that I would like shoulder-length hair. The stylist asked if I would like layers. I said yes. She asked if I would like long layers. I said yes. The stylist confirmed that I wanted shoulder-length hair with long layers.

Does this look like shoulder-length hair with long layers to you?

I am pretty sure that my chin is above my shoulders, so the fact that my hair is now above my chin does not make me happy at all. It is ugly. I am mad. Mad and ugly. I can't wait for all the Christmas pictures.

So anyway, for my thirteen things today, I am going to list thirteen things that start with the letter F and make me happy. I have done something similar before, but this time I got a letter from Stefanie. Lots of other people have done this as well, including Malia.

Anyway, here we go.

1. frankfurters at baseball games- I love going to baseball games. Especially College World Series games. And franks taste best outside.

2. friends- I am so lucky to have a few people that have stuck with me despite my moodiness and general craziness, and I am so glad to have them in my life. I am also grateful for new friends. Nothing can cheer me up or make me happy the way a friend with a good story can.

3. frozen yogurt- Ben & Jerry's frozen yogurt is deliciously wonderful.

4. Frappaccinos- the perfect summer treat and a good reason to take a break at work.

5. family- My family is small, but I know that I can depend on them no matter what.

6. fancy dinners (that I don't have to cook)

7. freedom- Don't worry. I'm not going to break out into a song by Lee Greenwood.

8. Foo Fighters- I will not break out into a song by the Foo Fighters either.

9. fabulous haircuts that look nice and are actually shoulder-length

10. French cheese- Camembert is my favorite despite number 3 on this list.

11. Falk, Peter- I love Columbo. I like the mystery aspect, the pace of the storyline, and the way he makes people think he is dumb in order to trip them up. You think I'm a dork now, don't you? [As though you didn't think that before you read this.]

12. fermented grapes- Kind of a stretch, and yet, I don't care.

13. free food- What can I say? I am stingy.

Sorry about the haircut - that really sucks. I had to fire my stylist because I he KNEW I had been trying to grow my hair for a year and every time he cut it too short! BTW, I LOVE the Foo! Your blog came up in a Google Blog alert for Foo Fighters.

BTW, the hair doesn't look that bad even tho I know it was not what you wanted at all.

I think the haircut looks lovely. Of course, I know that it doesn't matter what we say because it is not what you wanted and that is all that matters. But as someone who has received many terrible haircuts but one that was oh so terrible that I couldn't stop myself from crying before I left the salon, my advice to you is to own it, embrace it and make it work for you. Or you could sue the stylist. You are a lawyer--it'd sound official coming from you.

Darn beta blogger...It just lost my comment.

Anyway, I don't think the haircut looks bad, but I'd like to see a picture of you smiling, because right now I think of it as the angry haircut.

I don't worry much about my hair. I am currently growing out what was a short hairdo, and it probably looks silly at its inbetween stages, but I don't care.

How sweet is anonymous-got-here-via-a-google-search-for-foo-fighters to comment on the fact that your hair looks fine? I don't think I've ever received a comment from someone who got to my blog by googling!

But your face can so pull it off!!
Not the cut of preference...I understand...but God, how I hate you for having such beautiful everything else!!

Sorry that you don't like your haircut! It certainly isn't shoulder length, but I really don't think it looks bad. You have a point about the one random layer, but I'm sure you can make it work. I agree with Sarah--embrace it; but never go back to that stylist because he obviously didn't listen to what you wanted!

Funny, I just chopped a chunk off. My recent color change totally fried the ends, so I went shoulder length. And this was the first time in nearly three years that I felt the stylist actually listened and gave me what I wanted. This stylist was a gem, though. I doubled her tip.

While i totally don't get the lumpy layer on the side, there, it really doesn't look that bad...

Except for the fact that I HATE it when they don't listen. HATE IT. I'm sure if you style it yourself, you can make it work.

It looks good and you can pull it off because you have a neck! ;-)

It's not ugly and be cheery - it's Christmas!

Also love a lot of your Fs - good list!

I think the chin-length look is cute, even if it's not what you wanted. I'll echo a couple other people here and agree that errant layer is a little odd, but I think if you don't style it to pouf out like that, it will blend and be fine.

Also, like 3Cs said, if you weren't looking so mad and surly in the picture, I never would have noticed anything was up with your hair. I would have thought, "Look at that happy, smiling girl with a devil-may-care attitude about her whimsically haphazard haircut! Yay for her." :-)

i agree with the rest of the peeps on here. I think the haircut is just fine...even if not what you wanted.

You are still a hottie..

I am totally sympathetic, as the exact same thing happened to me last year. I said "shoulder length, long layers" and got a chin-length 'do. But! You look adorable, even with your mad face.

Also, Columbo. HAAAA!

Yeah, stinkin' hairstylists. For that reason I haven't had my hair cut since 2002. Really. I am not kidding.

Min is right: even though it isn't what you wanted, you can totally pull it off!!

Oh, and when I read "freedom," my first thought was "Braveheart." Yeah, I'm a total dork.

I'm going to chime in with the others who said that your hair really looks fine. I agree, however, that it is in NO way shoulder length with long layers. Unless you're having a really, really stressful day, and your shoulders react like mine do to stress, and tighten up so much it feels like they're up by my ears. THEN it would be shoulder length. (Still no long layers, though.)

French cheese (Cambozola!), franfurters and froyo are on my list too [BTW - your hair looks cute to me!]

Free food has an appeal all it's own. Even mediocre free food has a delightful je ne sais quoi to it.

Bummer about the 'do. I wouldn't have known it was bad if you hadn't said so - I think you look damn cute.

I think your hair looks cute, but I know how irritating it can be when your hair is not cut the way you wanted.

Hot dogs always taste better at a ball game.

Well, it definitely doesn't look even close to shoulder length. Once, when I got a haircut I didn't like, I sobbed to my best friend later, "I am SHORN OF MY ONE BEAUTY." Much like Jo in Little Women.

HOWEVER, that being said, your hair looks cute! Sassy! Even if you look unhappy.

I like the F word idea -- very soothing.

Your hair looks totally cute! (though Iknow how frustrating it is when the stylist doesn't LISTEN...)

Camembert is my fave, as well ;)

I actually like your hair. Looks kind of 1930-ish. Very cute. And it covers up your mutant ear. (That is what you're hiding that's causing the anomoly in the hair smoothness, right?)

I have the same weird cowlick on the right side when my hair is too short. Try using a styling wand to blow dry it straight.

PS. 1930-ish is a huge compliment in my book. Not sure if that was clear.

Thanks, everyone, for the nice compliments! I am feeling much better about my hair today. And I think I have cured that weird poofy section... for now.

Anyway, I didn't have time to post last night because I had to pay the bills (really, that is not a euphemism) and pack for the trip to the in-laws.

It is supposed to snow both where I am now and where we are going, so it should be a fun trip tonight. Wish me luck. But first, I have to do lots of work, so boo to that. Why am I writing a post in my comments?

I can never switch stylists... as evidenced from my two-day blond stint. Can you imagine me blond?? Not a pretty sight!

I'm sure as you get accustomed to styling it your own way, you'll like it more and more. You did get totally ignored though, and you every right to go back and complain. Usually, they'll give you something Free. And that's another good F word. :-)

Save travels... maybe we'll see you?

Thanks, Schneids. The weather ended up cooperating nicely.

DCMM, I am sure you looked good as a blonde. I won't be in your town for another week though. We have multiple Christmas trips. =)

I like the hair!!! However, I completely understand being pissed if it's not what you wanted. Grrr! I do love the diagram.
